Gators Enjoy Success on Freeman Memorial Opening Day
Saturday, January 14, 2017 | Women's Tennis
Freshman Ingrid Neel won her collegiate debuts in singles and doubles.
LAS VEGAS – Rain caused a four-hour delay on the first day of play at the Freeman Memorial Women's Tennis Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the UNLV campus, but that didn't dampen the results for the Gators competing at the three-day singles and doubles event.
Junior Anna Danilina and freshman Ingrid Neel both won their respective singles and doubles matches, while senior Spencer Liang captured an opening-round singles victory. Junior Brooke Austin dropped her singles in a grueling three-setter and her doubles bouts on Friday.
Due to the rain, the second round of singles was pushed to Saturday so semifinals and finals of both singles and doubles are now scheduled for Sunday.
The consolation brackets begin Saturday, as well.
