Gator Links: Super Bowl Time for Poole & Neal, Haslem in Business, more
Monday, January 30, 2017 | General, Scott Carter
A collection of recent links that feature items of interest to Florida fans.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Super Bowl is six days away, which means between now and Sunday, if you are not a football fan, you might want to take that vacation to the Alaskan wilderness you've thought about.
Because unless you plan to have no communication with the outside world – which means you won't be reading this of course – good luck on avoiding at least some type of interaction with Super Bowl 51 between Atlanta and New England.
Since I'm often inept at predicting outcomes of games, I'm going with New England 33, Atlanta 28. Perhaps by going with the Patriots, the Falcons will win and deliver Atlanta only its second championship in the four major professional sports, joining the 1995 Braves.
The Gators have connections to Super Bowl 51, starting on the field with rookie defensive backs Brian Poole and Keanu Neal.
Let's take a look at a couple of links covering Florida's Super Bowl rookies and more stories of interest to Gator fans:
--Sarasota Herald-Tribune columnist Doug Fernandes writes about local product Poole and how he found his way to the Super Bowl in his first season.
--Meanwhile, Frank Jolley of the Leesburg Commercial writes that the tiny town of Webster, Fla., might not be best known for its flea market for much longer because of Neal.
--Former UF basketball standout Udonis Haslem puts in work off the court as a Miami businessman writes Marc Spears for theundefeated.com.
--Gators ambassador Steve Spurrier has put his home up for sale in Columbia writes Jeff Wilkinson of thestate.com.
--The mood in Oklahoma was opposite of Florida's after the Gators' road win Saturday. Ryan Aber of newsok.com describes vibe for Lon Kruger's team.
--Ronni Williams scored the most points for a UF women's basketball player in 22 years in a career game against Vanderbilt writes Dylan Dixon of the Independent Florida Alligator.
