Barnett and Bates combined for three event victories and three national top-five times/marks at last weekend's Razorback Invitational
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida sprinter Sharrika Barnett and jumper KeAndre Bates were awarded weekly Southeastern Conference honors Tuesday (Jan. 31), with Barnett nabbing Women's Runner of the Week and Bates collecting Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Barnett won the Razorback Invitational 400 meters title in 52.07 seconds, the No. 3-ranked time in Division I and the top time among SEC runners this year. In addition, Barnett joined Robin Reynolds and Tiandra Ponteen as the only Gators underclassmen in history to break 52.40.
The Orlando, Fla. product topped the next-fastest SEC runner in the field by more than a full second, and she is now one of two SEC runners to break 53.45 seconds this year.
The huge personal record also made Barnett:
Bates scored a pair of victories at the Razorback Invitational, sweeping the horizontal jumps.
The El Paso, Texas native won the triple jump by over three feet, tying the national lead with a top mark of 16.66 meters (54 feet, 8 inches). Bates and Arkansas' Clive Pullen share a mark that leads the third-best jump this year by 28 centimeters.
Bates also improved his season-best long jump mark to 7.84 meters (25 feet, 8.75 inches), which ranks fourth nationally.

The Gators, whose men lead the nation with four national leads, nine national top 5s, and 10 national top 10s in NCAA Championship events, will see their throwing corps compete at this weekend's Virginia Tech "Doc Hale" Elite Meet.
