Danilina to Play for ITA Regional Title

Anna Danilina will play for the singles title on Monday at 10 a.m.
ATHENS, Ga. – UF senior Anna Danilina won two more singles rounds on Sunday and advanced to the final of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships Presented by Oracle played at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
 
The 15th-ranked Gator opened with a 6-4, 6-4 quarterfinal win against Georgia's No. 105-ranked Marta Gonzalez, before earning a 6-2,7-5 victory over Georgia Tech's fourth-seeded and No. 49-ranked Paige Hourigan to advance to the title match.
 
Danilina will play Georgia's seventh-seeded Katarina Jokic for the championship tomorrow at 10 a.m., with the winner earning an automatic berth into the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, considered the second leg of the collegiate Grand Slam, that will be held Nov. 1-5 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California.
 
Also in action on Sunday was senior Brooke Austin, who marched her way into the quarterfinals and pushed Miami's top-seeded and No. 11-ranked Estela Perez-Somarriba, before falling 4-6,6-3,6-2. Jokic knocked off Perez-Somarriba, 7-5, 7-5, in the other semifinal bout.
 
 
Quoting UF Associate Head Coach Dave Balogh:
"I am really happy Anna will play for the title tomorrow. I was impressed with her ability to make some adjustments and keep her cool at the end of the match when it got close. It's going to be a great and challenging singles final."

On the Line
  • Singles and doubles champions from each of the ITA Division I Regional Championships held across the country receive an automatic entry into the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.

Follow the Action
  • Results from all completed matches will be emailed to SIDs daily around 5 p.m, at end of play day and posted to georgiadogs.com.
  • There will be NO live scoring or streaming.
  
The Draws
  • All matches in the Qualifying Draws will be held on Thursday, with eight singles players and four doubles teams feeding into the Main Draw.
  • The qualifying portion features approximately 32-player Singles Draw and approximately a 16-team Doubles Draw
  • There will not be a Qualifying Consolation
  • The Main Draw features a 64-player singles Draw and a 32-team Doubles Draw
  • Consolation Singles Draw For 1st Round losers & another one for 2nd Round losers; Consolation Doubles for 1st Round losers
 
Daily Schedule
  • Fri., Oct. 20: Main Draw (and possible Consolation) – 1 round of Singles; 2 rounds of Doubles – Approx. 9 a.m. start
  • Sat., Oct. 21: Main Draw and Consolation – two rounds of doubles at 9 a.m. followed by singles
  • Sun., Oct. 22: Main Draw and Consolation – two rounds of singles at 10 a.m.
  • Mon., Oct. 23: Main Draw and Consolation – Singles Fin10 a.m.
 
Format & Scoring
  • No-ad scoring will be used in all ITA singles and doubles matches.
  • Singles will be 2-out-of-3 sets except Consolation which will play 10-point Match Tiebreak in lieu of a 3rd set.
  • In all ITA Regional Championship events a doubles match must consist of a minimum of an 8-game pro set (tiebreak at 7-all), with the semifinals and finals doubles matches consisting of 2-out-of-3 sets, with a 10-point Match Tiebreak in lieu of a 3rd set.
