
Lawless Named SEC Male Swimmer of the Week

Senior swimmer earns first weekly accolade of his career
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Senior Ben Lawless was tabbed as Male Swimmer of the Week, as the Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday.
The Owings, Md. native earned his first weekly honor after helping the Florida men take down two ranked SEC opponents in No. 16 Alabama and No. 12 Georgia last week.
He registered four top-3 finishes, including three wins over the course of the two meets. His B-cut qualifying swim of 15:19.82 in the 1,650 free against Alabama is currently the fastest time in the nation. He also claimed first in the 500 free against the Crimson Tide, posting a time of 4:28.81.
Against Georgia, Lawless finished first in the 1,000 free with the ninth-best time in the nation (9:05.41). He rounded out his week with a third place finish in the 500 free, posting a time of 4:26.06 to rank 16th in the country.
The Gators are back in action on Saturday, as they men compete in the Orange and Blue meet, while the women take on Florida Gulf Coast at 10 a.m.
