Men’s Tennis struggles on the third day of Fall Nationals; Gators open Dick Vitale Invite with multiple victories

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – The University of Florida's men's tennis team started the day out strong with a couple of wins in singles but were unable to continue the success throughout the day, as the Gators picked up only one doubles win.

Alfredo Perez, ranked No. 7 in the ITA Preseason Rankings and seeded ninth in the tournament, got his game rolling early in the round of 16 against seventh seeded Constantin Schmitz of Tulane. Perez jumped out to an early lead over Schmitz, ranked No. 13 in the ITA Rankings, before earning the upset victory by scores of 6-3, 6-2.

In the quarterfinals Perez was faced with his second top 15 match-up of the day in ITA No. 3 and third seeded Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest. Perez battled throughout the contest but had his singles championships come to an end by scores of 7-5, 6-4.

In the consolation singles bracket Johannes Ingildsen looked primed for another win in the round of 16. Ingildsen was matched up against Oklahoma's Ferran Calvo and walked away with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 decision and advance to the consolation quarterfinals.

In his quarterfinals match Ingildsen took on the 95th ranked player in the ITA Preseason Rankings, Mike Pervolarakis of Portland. Ingildsen was unable to get much going in the match, falling by scores of 6-2, 6-1.

Chase Perez-Blanco and Oliver Crawford kept their tournament going in the doubles consolation bracket. Perez-Blanco and Crawford played Aziz Kijametovic and Francois Musitelli of Old Dominion, and after a tough first set advanced to the Saturday's semifinals by a 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-7 decision.

McClain Kessler and Duarte Vale had their national tournament come to an end on Friday. The seventh seeded doubles duo was paired against No. 29 Chris Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn of Louisville who were seeded fourth in the tournament. Kessler and Vale lost by scores of 6-1, 6-4.

The final duo of the day to go for the Gators was the top seeded pair of Perez and Ingildsen who took on Rodrigo Banzer and Leonardo Telles of Texas. A day full of matches that started at 9 a.m. took their toll of the pair as they fell by scores of 6-2, 6-1.

Andrade entered the tournament as one of the four seeded student-athletes at No. 3. In his Round of 32 match Andrade faced-off with Louisville's Federico Gomez. Andrade wasted little time getting into rhythm as he was able to take his first round match by scores of 6-4, 6-2.

In his round of 16 match Andrade took on Florida Gulf Coast's Javier Reynolds and much like his first round match, Andrade found success throughout the match earning a 7-5, 6-4 decision.

Belga matched up against George Washington's Chris Reynolds in the first round but struggled from the start, falling by scores of 6-0, 6-4. In his consolation singles match Belga took on Clement Filho of Louisville but fell 7-5, 2-6, 10-4.

Belga and Andrade teamed up for doubles play in the event and the top seeded doubles pair got in a groove early against Davey Roberts and Ben Tso of Princeton and maintained their composer on their way to an 8-2 decision in the quarterfinals.
