Second appearance on the SEC Community Service Team for Douglas - also on 2015 list
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - University of Florida redshirt junior Courtney Douglas is part of the 2017 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for soccer. This is her second appearance, as she also appeared on the 2015 SEC Community Service Team.
The SEC takes submissions based on the good deeds and volunteering that the student athletes do around the community while at their respective schools.
Douglas participated in 12 different community service events since the fall of 2016, with multiple visits to Shands Pediatrics to lift the spirits of the young patients and to Gainesville elementary schools. She also volunteered at "Climb for Cancer"- where student-athletes participate in games with children who have cancer.
Other community service activities for Douglas include volunteering at the Girls on the Run 5K, Miracle on Main Street (a holiday event providing toys for families), led tours of Gator facilities to youth groups and helped at Gainesville's Special Needs Prom.
Douglas also helped deliver shoes for the annual Gator Tracks event. Each year, Gator student-athletes provide shoes and socks to Gainesville children, delivering more than 400 pairs of shoes during the 2016 holiday season.
Douglas is Florida's current Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president.
Next for Florida:
The Gators now await Monday's announcement of the 64-team field for the 2017 NCAA Championships.
The reveal of the field is 4:30 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
Teams need to have a record better than .500 for an at-large berth consideration. Thirty-one conferences receive automatic qualification for the 2017 championship. The remaining 33 selections are on an at-large basis.
