Florida wll begin competition in California on Sunday
Gators Head to California for Northrop Grumman Challenge

PALOS VERDES, Calif. -- The University of Florida women's golf team begins competition at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Sunday. Among the 15 teams in the field, 12 of them are ranked in the top-30 including the No. 8 Gators.
UF finished in third place at this event a year ago.
During the 2016 Northrup Grumman Challenge, Karolina Vlckova led the Gators as she finished tied for 10th at three-over (216). In addition, Maria Torres and Taylor Tomlinson finished in the top-20 last season as Torres tied for 13th at four-over (217) and Tomlinson tied for 20th place at eight-over (221).
Florida started the spring season on a high note at the Florida Challenge in Tampa on Jan. 30, where the Gators captured the team and individual titles. Overall, UF finished the tournament with a 12-stroke lead, while Torres, and freshmen Marta Perez and Carlotta Ricolfi, took home a share of the individual title at the event two weeks ago.
It was the second win of Torres' career, while it was the first for Perez and Riocolfi.
Florida will look to continue that momentum into this weekend's three-day tournament.
Course Information: The tournament is being held at the Par-71, 6,017 yards Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif.
Format: 54-hole stroke play where teams will play three rounds over three days

The Gators' Lineup:
Senior Maria Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico): Took home a share of the individual title at the Florida Challenge, which marked Torres' second win of her collegiate career and her first since the 2016 SEC Championship.
Junior Taylor Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.): Competed as an individual at the Florida Challenge, where she finished in a tie for 20th.
Freshman Carlotta Ricolfi (San Remo, Italy): Captured the first individual title of her collegiate career at the Florida Challenge two weeks ago.
Senior Karolina Vlckova (Unhošt, Czech Republic): Tied for 14th at the Florida Challenge, finishing at seven-over.
Sophomore Sam Wagner (Windermere, Fla.): Took home her third top-10 finish of the season at the Florida Challenge where she finished in a tie for fourth place.
Individuals:
Senior Kelly Grassel (Chesterton, Ind.): Finished the Florida Challenge at seven-over, tied for 14th with her teammate, Karolina Vlckova.
