PALOS VERDES, Calif. – The University of Florida women's golf team placed fourth at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge as the Gators carded an eight-over (860) during the three-day, three-round event.
UF tallied an 11-over (295) on Tuesday for the final round of the tournament.
Individually, Taylor Tomlinson continued her stellar play this spring as she won a share of the individual title. The Gainesville, Fla. native posted a final round 69 to finish the tournament at four-under (209).
Not only did her score this week mark the best score of her collegiate career, it was Tomlinson's third career victory and second this spring.
Kelly Grassel, who competed as an individual this week, finished in fourth place shooting three-under (210). It was Grassel's third top-10 finish of the 2016-17 season. Meanwhile, Maria Torres tied for 11th and tallied a one-over (214).
Next up, Florida heads to New Orleans, La. to compete in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship on February 19-21.
Head Coach Emily Glaser:
Thoughts on the Gators' final round:
"We hung in there for a good portion of the day, it was a disappointing way to finish. Ultimately, I'm more concerned with the lesson we learned from today's experience and the way it shapes us moving forward. This group has had a lot of success. Although we took it on the chin today, I believe we will be better for it.
On Taylor Tomlinson's win:
"I am really proud of Taylor and the way she has shown up ready to compete these last few weeks. She was consistent and composed this week and deserves this win. I hope it continues to open her eyes to the caliber of player that she is."
