Florida Looks to Repeat at Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

NEW ORLEANS – Florida's women's golf team is back in action on Sunday at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship. The No. 6 Gators will compete against six top-30 ranked teams at the three-day event in Louisiana.
The Gators won the title at this event a year ago as UF defeated Oklahoma State by one stroke at two-under (862).
During the 2016 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, Karolina Vlckova led the Gators at four-under (212) to place third. Maria Torres and Taylor Tomlinson also finished in the top-20 as they finished 11th (one-under, 215) and tied for 15th (even-par, 216), respectively.
A week ago, Taylor Tomlinson paced the Gators at the Northrop Grumman. The Gainesville, Fla. native took home a share of the individual title, posting the lowest tournament score as a collegian. It was the third win of her career, the first since the 2016 Florida Challenge.
As a team, Florida finished in fourth place at the Northrop Grumman, posting an eight-over (860).
Course Information: The tournament is being held at the Par-72, 6,239 yards English Turn Golf & Country Club in New Orleans, La.
Format: 54-hole stroke play where teams will play three rounds over three days

The Gators' Lineup:
Junior Taylor Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.): Took home a share of the individual title at the Northrop Grumman, which marked Tomlinson's third win of her collegiate career.
Senior Kelly Grassel (Chesterton, Ind.): Competed as an individual at the Northrop Grumman, where she finished in fourth place.
Senior Maria Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico): Tied for 11th at the Northrop Grumman, finishing at one-over.
Senior Karolina Vlckova (Unhošt, Czech Republic): Carded a five-over (218) at the Northrop Grumman, to finish in a tie for 18th.
Freshman Marta Perez (Valencia, Spain): Captured the first individual title of her collegiate career at the Florida Challenge on Jan. 30.

"We are hoping to carry some of the positive momentum from California into this week. Most of the team has played here and we have played well in the past. However, like any tournament, we have to focus on this week and what is within our control. We had a solid practice round and practice leading into Sunday. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do this week and what we have learned after our first few starts this spring."
