Faedo Named SEC Pitcher of Week
Monday, February 27, 2017 | Baseball
Junior right-hander was dominant in win against Miami on Friday night.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After the weekend that Florida's pitching staff had on the mound, it's only fitting that junior Alex Faedo was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week. The league office announced the honor on Monday.
Faedo shut out Miami in a career-long outing (8.2 innings) and picked up his first win of the season as the Gators beat the Canes 1-0 on Friday night. If not for an untimely error in the ninth, he would have recorded the first complete game shutout of his career.
After pitching 6.1 hitless innings against Miami in 2016, he didn't allow a hit on Friday for the first 4.1 innings – a streak of 10.2 untouchable innings. He currently has a scoreless streak of 15 innings against the Canes.
In addition to shutting out Miami, Faedo racked up eight strikeouts with just one walk.
As a whole, the Florida pitching staff limited Miami to two runs in 27 innings -- a stellar 0.67 ERA -- in three victories.
The Gators are back in action this week with five games on tap. Florida hosts UCF on Tuesday night, with freshman Nate Brown expected to make the first start of his career.
UF travels to UCF on Wednesday and hosts Columbia for a three-game series beginning Friday night at 6:30.
