The 2017 SEC all-around champion is second in league history to take both honors in a single season.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Last Saturday, she claimed her first collegiate all-around title at the Southeastern Conference Championships. Today, junior Alex McMurtry is the first Gator to be both the Southeastern Conference Gymnast and Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
She joins Rebekah Zaiser (2008) as Gator recipients of SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In the 14-year history of the SEC Scholar-Athlete award, McMurtry is the second to claim both Gymnast and Scholar-Athlete in the same season and first since Alabama's Kayla Hoffman in 2011.

Southeastern Conference Championships' all-around champion and shared floor exercise title
Top-10 national rankings for the trio of events she primarily competed – No. 3 vault (9.95 RQS), No. 6 uneven bars (9.930) and No. T10 beam (9.925)
Four all-around performances in 2017, with first win coming with a collegiate-best 39.70 in the SEC Championships. That total ties for No. T11 in nation. Limits her all-around contributions to manage back pain.
One of two gymnasts in nation to post 10.0 marks in three events in 2017 – vault, bars and floor.
Leads UF with 16 event wins in 2017 (6 bars, 4 vault, 3 beam, 2 floor, 1 all-around)
SEC Gymnast of the Week after Missouri meet. Two-time SEC Specialist Gymnast of the Week (Jan. 24 and Feb. 10).
Has won a SEC event title each season of collegiate career
Owns a 4.0 grade point average in Applied Physiology & Kinesiology- Exercise Physiology

A Gator has claimed the Southeastern Conference all-around title five of the last six years. Alex McMurtry's winning total of 39.70 is her collegiate best.

In addition, Florida equaled the league high with five on the All-SEC team and a pair on the All-SEC Freshman team.
The All-SEC Team is comprised of the student-athletes with the top two event scores (including ties) in each session of the SEC Championships. The All-Freshman team is comprised of the freshmen student-athlete with the top score (including ties) on each event in each SEC Championships' session.
