GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After earning three conference wins to close out the regular season, the conference announced on Monday (April 17) that the Florida men's tennis team earned a No. 3 seed for the 2017 SEC Tournament. The event will be held April 26-30 in Knoxville, Tenn. on the University of Tennessee campus.
Florida will face the winner of No. 6 Ole Miss vs. No. 11 Auburn on Friday, April 28th at 9:00 a.m. at the Goodfriend Tennis Center. The team is looking to consolidate its 2016 SEC Tournament Title and earn its fifth championship since team play was initiated in 1990.
The Florida men's tennis team won the 2016 SEC Tournament title, defeating the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs in the final round in Columbia, S.C. The Gators entered the tournament as a No. 2 seed.
The Gators have a 4-6 record against the Rebels in the SEC Tournament, but have only played the Tigers once in the tournament, defeating them in the semifinal round in 2010.
This season, the Gators earned a 9-3 conference record, earning five wins against nationally ranked SEC teams and a 5-1 conference record at home. Florida remained one of the highest-ranked teams in the conference, falling only behind Texas A&M and Georgia throughout the season.
