Former Gators quarterback homers in first official minor league at-bat
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Former Gators quarterback Tim Tebow did it again.
Tebow homered in his first at-bat for the Columbia (S.C.) Fireflies on Thursday night in a South Atlantic League game against the Augusta (Ga.) GreenJackets. Columbia is the Class-A affiliate of the New York Mets.
Tebow hit a 2-1 pitch off Augusta left-hander Dominique Mazza over the fence in left-center field. Tebow also hit a homer in his first instructional league game for the Mets last summer shortly after they signed him to a minor league contract.
Tebow's home run brought the sellout crowd at Spirit Communications Park to its feet as fans chanted "Te-Bow, Te-Bow."
Tebow was assigned to the Fireflies after hitting .148 in 27 at-bats for the Mets in spring training.
