Florida Falls to FSU in Exhibition Match Play Event

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida women's golf team competed in a match play event against Florida State on Friday. The No. 3 Seminoles defeated the No. 5 Gators 3-2 at the Southwood Golf Club.
Marta Perez and Taylor Tomlinson both won their matches to lead the way for Florida.
Tomlinson gave the Gators an early 1-0 lead, defeating FSU's Amanda Doherty 6-and-4. Perez defeated FSU's Lydia Gumm in 19 holes to tie the team score at 2-2.
Senior Kelly Grassel took Florida State's Kim Metraux to 22 holes before ultimately dropping the final point.
Florida begins postseason play at the SEC Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on April 21-23.

"We had a great day. I'm so proud of our girls and how they competed today. It was close all day. In the deciding match, we took a great FSU team to extra holes on a golf course we had never seen. It says a lot about the competitiveness our players have."

"Marta Perez had a standout performance today. She took a great FSU senior to extra holes and won, then followed it up by handily beating a top-10 college player. She was really in her element today."
