GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Summer plans for Gators' rising junior Mayra Pelayo includes a trip to Sweden with the U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team for 2017 Open Nordic Tournament play.
Pelayo is part of the 22-player roster that opens play Tues., June 6 versus Norway in Karlstad, Sweden. The U.S.'s final two matches (England, June 9 and Sweden, June 12) will take place in Mallbacken, Sweden.
Pelayo appeared in every match, with 19 starts at attacking midfield during the Gators' 2016 season. The creative midfielder was fourth among the Gators with four goals and 17 points and tied for second with nine assists – all collegiate season-highs.
Last year, three Gators were part of the U.S.'s U-23 team that won the Nordic Cup – Meggie Dougherty Howard, Claire Falknor and Savannah Jordan.
