
Faedo Drafted By Detroit in First Round

GAINESVILLE, Fla.—The Detroit Tigers selected junior right-hander Alex Faedo with the 18th pick of the first round of the 2017 MLB Draft on Monday night.
After his senior year of high school, the Tigers selected Faedo in the 40th round.
Faedo, a native of Tampa, owns the best winning percentage in school history with a 26-6 career record (.813). He has a 2.96 earned run average over 273.1 career innings pitched and ranks third all-time with 324 strikeouts.
In 2017, Faedo moved into the Friday night role and earned Second Team All-America honors after posting a 7-2 record with a 2.60 earned run average. He allowed one earned run or less in 11 of 17 starts this season.
Faedo owns two of the top five single season strikeout marks, recording 133 in 2016 (fourth most in UF history) and 132 so far this season (fifth most).
Florida head coach Kevin O'Sullivan has had seven players drafted in the first round, including at least one player in the first round for three years in a row (see chart below). There have been 19 Gators selected in school history in the first round of the MLB Draft.
