GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida placed 96 student-athletes on the 2017 Southeastern Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll, announced Monday by league commissioner Greg Sankey.
The 2017 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2016-17 summer, fall and spring terms.
Florida's NCAA title men's track & field and women's tennis teams placed 20 and six, respectively, on the Academic Honor Roll. The SEC champion softball (11) and baseball (12) teams placed nearly identical totals on the Honor Roll. All seven from the SEC champion women's golf team eligible for the SEC Academic Honor Roll appear on the 2017 list, its highest total since the 2009-10 season. The Gator lacrosse team, which swept the Big EAST regular season and tournament titles, saw 15 earn a spot on the list. Men's golf (6), men's tennis (3) and women's track & field (16) each had multiple representative on the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Two from the NCAA champion women's tennis team tallied 4.0 grade point averages in the 2016-17 academic year –senior Kourtney Keegan and junior Josie Kuhlman. At the NCAA Championships, Kuhlman received the NCAA Elite 90 Award, given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average at the final site of each of the NCAA's 90 championships. She also earned a spot on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America team earlier this month.
To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
