GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Three members of the University of Florida's men's tennis team earned 2017 Southeastern Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll honors on Monday, as announced by league commissioner Greg Sankey.
Seniors Maxx Lipman and Elliott Orkin were named to the Spring Academic Honor Roll for the third time in their careers. The duo also earned SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll honors back in 2014. Lipman and Orkin are joined by redshirt junior Joshua Wardell who also earned Spring academic honors. This is Wardell's second SEC Spring Academic honor. He also earned First-Year Academic Honors during the 2014 season.
The Gators had a great 2017 season on the court posting a 19-10 overall record with an SEC record of 9-3, including a trip to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament. The Orange and Blue collected two ITA All-American honors, two First Team All-SEC honors and one SEC All-Freshman team honor. The Gators were also one of four Florida teams to garner NCAA recognition for outstanding Academic Progress Rate (APR).
The 2017 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2016-17 summer, fall and spring terms.
Any student-athlete who participates in a Southeastern Conference championship sport or a student-athlete who participates in a sport listed on his/her institution's NCAA?Sports Sponsorship Form is eligible for nomination to the Academic Honor Roll.
To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
