
Dressel Qualifies for World Championship at Phillips 66 National Championships

Eight Gators Race in Opening Day of Championship
Indianapolis, Ind. – Florida swimmer Caeleb Dressel earned his spot on the US National team traveling to the FINA World Championships in July after finishing second in the 100-meter freestyle this evening.
Caeleb Dressel swam a 47.97 in the Final A round of the event, after posting a time of 48.56 in the preliminary round. Dressel finished .01 seconds behind first-place finisher, Nathan Adrian.
The soon-to-be senior was not the only Gator who raced in the men's 100-meter, both Maxime Rooney and alum Conor Dwyer earned a spot in the B Final, after finishing with times of 49.19 and 49.40, respectively.
Rooney finished first in the B Final, beating the rest of the heat with a mark of 49.00, while Dwyer did not swim in the B Final.
On the women's side, Sherridon Dressel, Taylor Ault and Kahra Williams kicked off competition on the first day of the championships.
Ault, a newcomer to the Gators, finished her 800-meter freestyle heat with a time of 8:35.06. Sherridon Dressel earned a sixth place heat finish in the 100-meter freestyle, posting a time of 56.99.
Williams rounded out the women's competitors, posting an 8:53.59 mark in her 800-meter race.
The men had two swimmers in the last race of the preliminary round. Drew Clark and Ben Lawless both competed in the 1,500-meter freestyle race, with Lawless finishing with a time of 15:21.32 and Clark posting a 16:26.36.
Tomorrow's races will begin at 9 a.m. with the women's 200-meter freestyle. Watch live at usaswimming.org.
