
Dressel and Beisel Qualify for FINA World Championships on Day 3 of Phillips 66

Eight Gators Make the Evening Session; Dressel Earns Fourth Qualification
Indianapolis, Ind. – On Day 3 of the Phillips 66 National Championships, Florida sent eight swimmers to the evening session, including two into A Finals. Caeleb Dressel made the A Final in the 100m Butterfly, while Elizabeth Beisel made the 400m Individual Medley A Final.
Dressel is FINA World Championship bound in his fourth event in three days, finishing first in the 100m Fly with the fastest time in the world so far this year, a 50.87. Dressel dropped over a full second from his prelim time into the final. He found himself in the A Final after finishing second overall in the field with a time of 51.38.
Alumna Beisel also qualified for World Championships, after placing second in the 400m Individual Medley with a time of 4:38.55. Beisel originally finished third in the race, but the swimmer in second was disqualified for swimming more than one quarter of the medley in backstroke. She earned her spot in the A Final after posting a time of 4:38.78, second best in the entire field.
Beisel was not alone in the finals for the women's 400m IM. Hannah Burns took a spot in the B Final after she finished the preliminary round with a time of 4.48.19, close to a five-second drop from her entry time. In the B final, Burns finished in sixth place with a time of 4:46.73.
Maxime Rooney found himself 14th overall in the 100m Butterfly after the preliminary round, where he swam a 53.49. Rooney won the B Final by improving upon his prelim time by over a second, finishing with a 52.28.
The men's 400m IM B Final saw three Gators compete, with Grant Sanders leading the way with a third place finish. The soon-to-be Gator swam a 4:20.52 for 11th place overall, followed by Alex Lebed in sixth, who swam a 4:24.80. Brennan Balogh made the B Final, but was disqualified during the event.
Sanders led the way for the three swimmers in the prelim round as well, finishing with a 4:22.63. Lebed was close behind with a 4:22.63 and Balogh snuck into the mix, posting a 4:23.50.
Closing out the Gator swimmers in the finals was Chandler Bray, who earned his way into the 50m Breaststroke B Final after posting a 28.48 in the prelims. Bray finished 6th in the B Final, posting a time of 28.36.
Savanna Faulconer, Kay Sargent, Sherridon Dressel and Sydney Sell were the other women who competed on Day 3, while Ross Palazzo and Stanley Wu competed for the men.
