Pair of Gators Receive ITA All-American Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. – Two members of the UF men's tennis team – Alfredo Perez and Johannes Ingildsen – have been recognized with Division I All-American honors, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Thursday (June 8).
Perez is one of 25 collegiate players to earn the singles honor, while the team of Ingildsen/Perez was one of 14 doubles teams recognized by the ITA.
Perez – ITA All-American, Singles
As a sophomore, Perez dominated for the Gators at the No. 1 position, where he earned a 17-7 overall record and a 7-4 SEC record. After earning two ranked wins in Florida's matches against No. 8 USC and No. 6 UCLA, he was honored with his first SEC Player of the Week honor – his fourth career weekly honor – and received a career-high ranking of No. 6 in late February.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, he made the 2017 First Team All-SEC, the ITA named him the 2017 National Men's Division I Player to Watch, and he received the team's Most Outstanding Player Award.
After an outstanding dual season, Perez advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Individual Tournament as the No. 6 seed, where he fell to the eventual national champion. He earned a final ranking of No. 10 in the Oracle/ITA Singles Rankings, and the No. 2 player in the Southeast Region.
Ingildsen and Perez – ITA All-Americans, Doubles
In their first season as a pair, Ingildsen and Perez had an impressive breakout season, earning a 22-10 record in 2016-17. The team went 14-6 at the No. 1 position with a 7-3 conference record in dual play, and clinched a team-high nine doubles points for UF.
After going 8-1 in the fall to earn two titles – the ITA Southeast Regional and National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship (consolation) titles – the pair earned a No. 3 ranking and went undefeated for the first five matches of the dual season. They defeated a team-high seven ranked doubles opponents, six of which were in the regular season.
The duo finished the regular season with a No. 2 ranking, and entered the NCAA Individual Tournament as the No. 3 seed. They advanced to the Round of 16 where they were upset by the eventual runners-up. Ingildsen/Perez finished the season with a No. 6 Oracle/ITA ranking and a No. 2 ranking in the Southeast Region.
