Senior Tight End Named to National Honors Awards List
2017 Mackey Award Watch List
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Senior tight end DeAndre Goolsby earned a place on the 2017 Mackey Award Watch List, as announced on Tuesday.
Goolsby, an anthropology major, played in all 13 games last season and garnered 10 starts. The Derby, Kan. native recorded 342 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 38 catches last season. He ranked tied for first on the Gators in TD receptions and third in total catches. Those numbers were good enough to land him on the Mackey Award Midseason Watch List. Goolsby enters his senior season with 34 games played, 55 receptions, 619 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.
The Mackey Award, named in honor of John Mackey, has been presented annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end since 2000. NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered the best to have played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.
The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2017 Mackey Award recipient will be announced on December 6, 2017 and then presented live on December 7, 2017 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
