Five Gators Compete on Day 2 of FINA Championships

Dressel Takes Fourth in 50m Fly; C. Main Advances to 100m Back Final
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Day 2 of the FINA World Championships saw five Gators race, including one finals appearance by Caeleb Dressel.
One day after setting a new American record in the 50m fly, Dressel (USA) finished fourth overall in the final, posting a time of 22.89.
Gator alum Corey Main (New Zealand) was the lone Gator to make it to Monday's semi-final round after finishing ninth overall in the men's 100m backstroke. His personal best swim of 53.76 in the semi was good enough to place him as the eighth seed in Tuesday's final.
Main earned his way into the semi-final round after he posted a 53.97 in the prelims.
Rising senior Jan Switkowski (Poland) and rising sophomore Khader Baqlah (Jordan) both competed in the men's 200m freestyle race, placing 18th and 19th respectively. Switkowski posted a time of 1:47.42, while Baqlah finished with a time of 1:47.68.
Hilda Luthersdottir (Iceland), another Gator alum, raced in her first event of the week on Monday, finishing with a time of 1:07.54 in the 100m breaststroke. The time was good enough for an 18th place finish, just outside of semi-final qualification.
Day 3 prelims start Tuesday at 3:30 a.m. EST with the men's 800m free race. Start lists can be found here and streaming can be found here.
