
Switkowski, Main Compete on Day 3 of FINA Championships

200m fly featured Jan Switkowski, while C. Main raced in 100m back final
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Rising sophomore Jan Switkowski and alum Corey Main were the only two Gators who competed on Tuesday at the FINA World Championships.
Switkowski (Poland) earned his way into the men's 200m fly semi-final after placing 10th in the preliminary round with a time of 1:56.23. The rising senior was able to shave almost .5 seconds off his time in the semi-final round, posting a time of 1:55.84. The mark was good for 10th place overall, which put Switkowski just out of Wednesday's final.
Switkowski still has two races on the docket, with the 100m free prelims on Wednesday and the prelims for the100m fly on Friday.
Gator alum Corey Main found himself in the men's 100m back final after Monday's semi-final performance of 53.76. The New Zealander finished the final in eighth place, posting a time of 53.87. Main still has the men's 200m back prelims on Thursday.
During Tuesday's competition, former Gator Gemma Spofforth's world record in the 100m backstroke finally fell to Canada's Kylie Masse. It was the longest standing record on the women's side, having been set seven years ago. Spofforth swam a 58.12 at the 2009 World Championships to set the world record and Masse just slipped past the mark with a 58.10 on Tuesday.
