Four Gators Compete on Day 2 of World University Games

Three swimmers earn spots in semifinal races; D'Arrigo qualifies for Tuesday’s finals session
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Four Gators competed on Day 2 of the World University Games, with Maxime Rooney, Mitch D'Arrigo and Grant Sanders each earning a spot in the semifinal round.
D'Arrigo and Rooney competed in the men's 200m freestyle semifinal, finishing in sixth and 10th place, respectively. D'Arrigo swam a 1:48.10 in the semifinal round, topping his preliminary time by a second and a half. The semifinal swim earned him a spot in Tuesday's final.
Rooney posted a time of 1:18.86 in the semi, besting his preliminary time of 1:49.12. .
Sanders (USA) earned his spot in the men's 200m individual medley semifinal after posting a time of 2:03.03 in the preliminary round. He shaved nearly a second off that time in the semis, finishing in 14th place overall with a time of 2:02.28.
Georgia Marris (New Zealand) raced in her first event of the week on Monday, swimming in the women's 100m freestyle. She posted a time of 57.53 to finish 25th overall in the event.
Day 3 of the WUG kicks off with the men's 200m butterfly at 9 a.m. in Taiwan (9 p.m. EST).
