
Trio of Gators Race on Day 5 of WUGs

Rooney places fifth in final; Marris and Main compete in preliminaries
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Maxime Rooney, Bayley Main and Georgia Marris competed for the Gators on Day 5 of the World University Games.
Rooney (USA) finished fifth in the men's 100m freestyle final, posting a time of 49.16. This race was the second final of the week for Rooney. The sophomore earned his spot in the Thursday's final after finishing seventh overall in the semifinal, once again swimming a 49.16.
Marris (New Zealand) posted a time of 2:02.55 in the women's 200m freestyle. The time put her at 20th place in the field, the best finish of her three events thus far.
Main (New Zealand) rounded out the competitors on Day 5, finishing with a time of 2:05.16 in the men's 200m backstroke preliminary to put him in 25th place overall.
Friday's preliminary round begins at 9 a.m. in Taiwan (Thursday, 9 p.m. EST) with the women's 50m breaststroke. Main, Grant Sanders and Mitch D'Arrigo are all set to compete in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay.
