Hersler, Sweden Bounce Back at World University Games

The Gator newcomer and Sweden will play Team USA on Monday.
TAIPEI CITY, Taiwan – Gator newcomer Paulina Hersler and her native Sweden lost to Japan in the quarterfinals before bouncing back to down Czech Republic on Saturday at the World University Games held in Taipei City, Taiwan.
Hersler scored 11 points with three rebounds, three blocks and an assist before fouling out after 22 minutes of action in the 90-51 setback to Japan.
Japan raced out to a 21-8 lead after the first quarter and held a commanding 50-20 advantage at halftime en route to the convincing win against Sweden.
The Swedish team rebounded with a 85-76 victory against the Czech Republic the following day when Herlser tallied 13 points with three boards in 23 minutes.
Sweden's game against the Czech Republic began in a similar fashion as its one versus Japan, only Sweden was the team in control early, jumping out to 23-8 lead after the first quarter.
Hersler has started every game for Sweden, which will play the USA on August 28 in the fifth-sixth place game. Team USA, which is represented by the University of Maryland, lost to Australia before downing Canada to earn a spot in Monday's game.
Japan and Australia are in the gold-medal game.
