
Bray sets UF record in 100m Breast on US Open Day 4

Twelve swimmers make evening session; Four Gators compete in championship finals
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Chandler Bray set a new Florida record on Day 4 of the US Open, posting a time of 1:01.52 in the swim-off of the men's 100m breaststroke. He, along with three other Gators, earned spots in championship finals on Saturday.
Bray ended up finishing eighth in the championship final of the 100m breaststroke, swimming a 1:01.90. Ross Palazzo swam in the B consolation final, posting a time of 1:03.05 to finish seventh in the heat.
Taylor Ault was the lone Gator in the women's 200m freestyle finals round, winning the under-18 D final with a time of 2:01.63.
Mitch D'Arrigo (1:50.67) led the way for the men in the 200m freestyle, racing to an eighth place finish in the championship final. Andrew Brady and Grant Sanders both raced in the consolation B final, with Brady coming out on top with a 1:49.69, followed closely by Sanders, who swam a 1:52.17. Grady Heath raced in the C final, also posting a time of 1:52.17 to round out the Gators in the event.
Sydney Sell qualified for the consolation B final in the women's 100m back, finishing second in the heat with a time of 1:01.94, a personal best.
The men's 100m back round consisted of four Gators, with Ryan Lochte and Clark Beach earning spots in the championship final. Lochte led the way out of the two, finishing fifth with a time of 55.16, while Beach followed up in eighth place with a time of 55.48.
Bayley Main qualified for the consolation B final, finishing with a time of 56.67 and Ethan Beach earned a spot in the under-18 D final, winning the final with a time of 57.19.
The preliminary round began with the women's 200m freestyle race, featuring five Gators. Ault qualified for the under-18 bonus final, finishing with a time of 2:03.65. Sherridon Dressel (2:04.13), Kelsey Dambacher (2:04.25), Savanna Faulconer (2:05.71) and Kelly Fertel (2:07.69) rounded out the Gators competing in the event.
Eight men competed in the 200m free race, with five qualifying for finals on Saturday evening. D'Arrigo led the way with a 1:49.82 to finish fourth overall and earn a spot in the championship final. Brady qualified for the consolation B final, finishing with a 1:50.48 His finish of ninth overall in the prelims bested his seed place by 59 places. Heath and Clark Beach were the other two Gators making finals, with Heath (1:51.86) earning a spot in the C final and Beach (1:52.67) taking a spot in the under-18 D final.
Ben Lawless (1:53.48), Dakota Mahaffey (1:52.69) and Ethan Beach (1:54.84) rounded out the Gators swimming in the event.
Savanna Faulconer swam in the women's 100m breaststroke, finishing in 43rd place with a time of 1:14.15.
Bray earned his spot in the A final of the 100m breast after winning a swim-off with his record-setting time. Palazzo qualified for the B final with a time of 1:03.05. Grant Sanders rounded out the field with a time of 1:04.12, good for 34th place.
Sell made her way into the B final of the women's 100m backstroke, finishing 14th with a time of 1:02.63. Behind her was Sherridon Dressel, who finished 29th with a time of 1:03.52.
The final event of the preliminary round was the men's 100m back, which featured nine Gators competing. Lochte and Clark Beach found their way into the A final after posting times of 55.59 and 55.70, respectively. Bayley Main qualified for the B final, swimming a 56.15 and Ethan Beach rounded the final swimmers out with a 57.20 to make the D final.
Dakota Mahaffey (57.02), Brennan Balogh (57.61), Sanders (58.17), Tyler Silver (58.49) and Taylor Delk (58.49) rounded out the Gators in competition.
