Senior Gabby Seiler among the nation's top collegiate players considered for soccer's top individual honor.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the second consecutive season, Florida's Gabby Seiler is among the Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, announced Tuesday by the United Soccer Coaches (USC).
About the MAC Hermann Trophy
The MAC Hermann Trophy is soccer's highest individual intercollegiate award. The 2017 honor is presented January 5, 2018 at the annual banquet held at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
The 2016 award went to Kadeisha Buchanan, who led West Virginia to the NCAA Championship match during her senior season.
About Gabby Seiler:
Seiler entered Florida's preseason last week after attending the July 21-28 U.S. Under-23 National Team training camp in Seattle, Wash. It was the third U-23 camp for Seiler since January. Seiler made her Gator debut in the 2016 season, as she played at Georgia in 2013 and 2014. She sat out the 2015 campaign due to Southeastern Conference transfer rules.
With the Gators in 2016, Seiler was a first-team selection for both National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region and All-SEC teams. The versatile player who can play midfield, center or outside back started every match in 2016.
What's the Next Step?
Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches will vote and the lists will be narrowed down to the top 15 players. College soccer fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the selection process, by voting for their favorite semifinalist in December at the MAC Hermann Trophy website.
From that pool of 30, six finalists (three men, three women) will be chosen for the award. The winners are announced January 5.
Gators in 2017:
Florida fans have their first chance to see the Gators in action tomorrow when Mississippi State comes to town for an exhibition match. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium and admission is free.
Florida opens its 23rd season at Florida Atlantic on Friday, Aug. 18. Then the Gators return home to begin a three-match home stand, beginning with Troy on Sunday, Aug. 20 at 1 p.m. That match will be played at Pressly Stadium and admission is free for all regular-season home matches.
In 2016, the Gators won the SEC Tournament title for the second consecutive year. Florida advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2016, as the Gators made its 20th appearance in the NCAA Championships' field.
