SEATTLE, Wash. – An early goal was all the Washington Huskies needed to upset the No. 2 Florida soccer team 1-0 Friday evening at the Husky Soccer Stadium.
Â
How the Goals Were Scored:
Washington jumped on the Gators early in the match. Shannon Simon's 22-yard shot off a throw-in curled under the crossbar to score at 1:30. It was the earliest goal scored on the Gators since Mississippi State's Shannen Jainudeen scored at 1:17 in a 5-1 Florida home win on Oct. 10, 2014.
The Gators controlled the ball for much of the match, but could not generate the shots they had in previous matches. A
Parker Roberts six-yard header in the 37th minute was stopped by UW goalkeeper Sarah Shimer. Another good opportunity off Florida's seven shots came in the 61
st minute when
Gabby Seiler was fouled just above the box.
Mayra Pelayo took the shot, which was stopped at the corner.Â
Â
For the match, both teams registered seven shots.
