Caeleb Dressel, Elizabeth Beisel and Coach Gregg Troy all up for awards
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 2017 USA Swimming Golden Goggle Award nominations were announced on Thursday and the Florida Gators had three names make the cut.
Senior Caeleb Dressel, head coach Gregg Troy, and alumna Elizabeth Beisel were each nominated in at least one category, with Dressel earning six to lead the entire field of nominees.
After earning seven gold medals at World Championships this past summer, Dressel is up for Male Athlete of the Year and Male Race of the Year for both the 100m free and 100m fly at the FINA World Championships. He has also been nominated for Relay Performance of the Year for the men's 4x100 free relay, mixed 400m medley relay and mixed 400m free relay while in Budapest.
Beisel was nominated in the perseverance award category after competing on her 12th straight US national team. She was voted captain of Team USA for the 17th FINA World Championships.
Coach Troy is up for Coach of the Year after serving as an assistant coach for Team USA during World Championships. He helped guide the Americans to an event-best 41 total medals.
The Golden Goggle Awards are based on the year's top accomplishments by U.S. swimmers, focusing primarily on the FINA World Championships. The 14th Annual Golden Goggle Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, Nov. 19 at the JW Marriott in Los Angeles.
Online fan voting is now open and will continue through Friday, Nov. 10. A percentage of the fan vote will count towards the final ballot.
