This is the second consecutive year a hurricane cancels this match-up between the in-state rivals.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the second consecutive year, a hurricane cancels the Florida versus Florida State soccer match.
Last year it was Hurricane Hermine.
This year it is approaching Hurricane Irma.
Both hurricanes have the same result on the top-15 matchup: Canceled. Approaching Hurricane Irma caused the cancellation of Friday's No. 13 Florida State at No. 9 Florida match.
Friday's match-up featured two top-15 teams – No. 13 Florida State at No. 9 Florida. It was to be played at 7 p.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium.
Governor Rick Scott canceled public school in the state (including universities) earlier tonight, leading to the decision to cancel Friday's soccer match.
Next for the Gators:
The Gators open Southeastern Conference play Thursday, Sept. 14 against Mississippi (5-0-1, 0-0 SEC). Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium.
The first 250 fans receive Gators rally sticks. It's $1 Thursday and fans can get a 12 ounce soda and a popcorn for a $1 each.
