Gators No. 13 in Latest CFB Playoff Rankings
Tuesday, November 13, 2018 | Football
Florida is ranked 13th in the third College Football Playoff rankings of the season.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida hosts Idaho in their final home game of the season on Saturday at 12 p.m. inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
Dan Mullen and Idaho head coach Paul Petrino were offensive coordinators on opposite sidelines of a 2008 matchup between Florida and Arkansas. The Gators racked up 514 total yards in a 38-7 win in Fayetteville.
Mullen and Petrino saw each other again in 2009 and 2012, with Petrino serving as Arkansas' offensive coordinator and Mullen as Mississippi State's head coach. The Bulldogs rushed for 327 yards in a 42-21 loss in 2009, but they piled up 505 total yards and Tyler Russell threw for four touchdowns.
Coach Dan Mullen is the only first-year FBS head coach to defeat multiple teams ranked in this Tuesday evenings third edition of the 2018 College Football Playoff rankings.
Florida debuted at No. 11 in the College Football Playoff Rankings, but fell to No. 15 after its 38-17 loss to the Missouri Tigers two weeks ago. Florida's 17-point comeback victory over South Carolina and its two aforementioned wins over currently-ranked No. 7 LSU and No. 21 Mississippi State are the reason UF is ranked inside the top 15 with three losses.
In his final four seasons at Mississippi State, Mullen guided the Bulldogs to a 10-4 mark in games following a loss, including a 4-0 record in 2015. Florida's head coach is now 3-1 in that category following Saturday's win over South Carolina.
Against an FCS opponent this weekend, Mullen is challenging his team to continue the momentum that Florida played with in the fourth quarter last Saturday.
Each day you either get better or get worse. There's no staying the same.
