Indiana Game Notes
The Gators are primed for their second-straight contest against a Big Ten foe as they hosted the Northwestern Wildcats this past Sunday. Despite leading for over 30 minutes and featuring four double-digit scorers, UF fell to Northwestern 83-74 in overtime in its second home game of the season. Florida led 70-59 with just over three minutes remaining in regulation, but Northwestern surged back with a late run to tie the game and it eventually send it into overtime. Redshirt-senior
Funda Nakkasoglu continued her strong play to start the season, tallying 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor while
Delicia Washington just missed her seventh career double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds for the game. Forward
Zada Williams, appearing off the bench for the first time in 2018-19, added a career-best 14.
After opening the season with three road challenges in their first five games, the Gators return for four-straight home games from Nov. 28 through Dec. 9.
Indiana is yet to lose a game on the young season, registering home wins vs. Milwaukee and North Florida and winning at Oakland. The Hoosiers, the reigning WNIT Postseason Champions, return three starters from last season's unit but also welcome the services of two high-major transfers in Ali Patberg (Notre Dame) and Brenna Wise (Pittsburgh). Patberg and Wise have carried the majority of the scoring load for IU in the early going, averaging 16.3 and 13.3 points per game, respectively. Patberg leads the team in scoring, rebounding (9.7) and assists (4.0) and recorded a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds in the Hoosiers' most recent action against North Florida. IU is led by former Indiana State and University of Indianapolis head coach, Teri Moren, who has amassed 85 wins in her 4+ seasons at the helm in Bloomington.
Sunday marks just the fourth meeting between UF and IU in a series that dates back to the 1980-81 campaign. The teams have met once in Gainesville and twice at neutral venues as Wednesday's contest will be the first played at Assembly Hall in the series. The Hoosiers hold a 2-1 edge and claimed the most recent matchup which occurred in 2016 as part of the Florida Sunshine Classic in Winter Park, Fla. Then freshman
Delicia Washington erupted for 31 points in the matchup, becoming just the fifth Gator rookie to score over 30 points in a game and the first since 1992.
Following Wednesday's battle with Indiana, Florida kicks off its four-game home swing Wednesday, Nov. 28 when it hosts Northeastern at the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
