Pascoe Breaks School, Australian Records in Boston
Saturday, December 1, 2018 | Track and Field
BOSTON – Redshirt junior distance runner Jessica Pascoe, two weeks removed from collecting an All-America honor at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, opened Florida's indoor track and field season by decimating a school record at the Boston University Season Opener.
Pascoe finished 10th among collegians in the 5,000 meters race, posting a time of 15 minutes, 34.76 seconds. Her time broke Rebecca Lowe's school record of 15 minutes, 59.46 seconds—which was set at the 2010 Husky Invitational—by 24.68 seconds. The time was also an Australian indoor record.
Even more impressive, though, was the fact Pascoe entered the race with a personal record of 16 minutes, 53.20 seconds.
Pascoe, a native of New South Wales, Australia, ranks 11th on the National Indoor Descending Order List. Following the conference championship meets in February, the top 16 entrants from the list compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Every season since at least 2011, Pascoe's time has easily qualified for NCAA Indoors. Pascoe also has herself in a great position so early in the year, as the majority of the nation's top distance runners competed in the race, and the runner immediately behind her in the national rankings is eight seconds slower.
The Gators will next compete at the Clemson Invitational and Hokie Invitational. Both meets are scheduled for Jan. 18-19.
