AP All-SEC Selections | Coaches All-SEC Selections
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Three Gators were picked to the Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference and the Coaches All-SEC teams, as announced on Tuesday. Jachai Polite was named first-team, while Martez Ivey nabbed second-team honors on both lists. CJ Henderson was honored on the Coaches All-SEC second-team.
Polite was tabbed as the Gators' lone first-team selections after leading the SEC in fumbles forced with five. He also recorded 11 sacks and 16.0 tackles for a loss of 64 yards. The junior entered 2018 with nine tackles for loss in 19 career games. He also added 43 tackles, four pass breakups and three quarterback hurries.
The Daytona Beach, Fla. native became the eighth Gator—and first since Marcus Maye in 2015—in history to log five forced fumbles in a season. Clifford Charlton (six in 1986) holds the UF record. Polite also tied Derrick Harvey (2006), Clifford Charlton (1986), Alonzo Johnson (1984), and Wilber Marshall (1981) for the fifth-highest single-season total in school history.
Ivey garnered second-team AP and Coaches honors after helping the Gators average 426.7 yards of offense per game. With his help, Lamical Perine and Jordan Scarlett each eclipsed 700 rushing yards on the year and Florida logged eight 200-plus rushing attack games, matching its combined total from 2015-2017 and tying the 2009 Gators for the second-highest number of times it hit that mark in a season since the start of 1996. The senior also helped Florida attain the program's fourth-highest rushing yardage total since the start of 1990 with 2,514.
Henderson earned Coaches All-SEC second-team accolades after recording two interceptions, two forced fumbles and 30 tackles. He also added seven pass breakups. Defensive Coordinator Todd Grantham said Henderson was the "the best college corner" toward the end of the season after he made plays such as closing a 10-yard gap on South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel to save a touchdown at the end of an 89-yard catch or his sprint from the far hash mark at Tennessee to the opposite sideline to tackle tight end Austin Pope and force a fumble out of the back of the end zone for a touchback.
