Holloway is the only man in history to long jump 8.13 meters and break 7.50 seconds in the 60 hurdles in a season
NEW ORLEANS – Sophomore hurdler, jumper and sprinter Grant Holloway remained on The Bowerman Men's Watch List for a fourth straight release, as announced Thursday afternoon by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Bowerman is collegiate track and field's highest individual honor, presented annually to the sport's top male and female athlete. Ten semifinalists are named after June's NCAA Outdoor Championships, followed by the selection of three finalists. The Bowerman presentation ceremony is part of December's USTFCCCA Convention.
Holloway, a 2017 semifinalist for The Bowerman, is coming off his second consecutive NCAA and SEC titles in the 60-meter hurdles, in addition to breaking the collegiate record in February. The Chesapeake, Va., native also took runner-up honors in the long jump at NCAA Indoor Championships with an 8.13-meter (26 feet, 8.25 inches) leap, becoming the first man in Division I history with top-two finishes in the high hurdles and long jump.
Moreover, Holloway was a fixture on the Gators' 4x400 relay, which ran two of the nine fastest times ever recorded—including the third-fastest clocking of all time (3:01.43)—and collected a silver medal at SEC Indoor Championships and a bronze medal at NCAA Indoors. Holloway split 44.91 seconds as the second leg of the Gators' historic run to 3:01.43.
The three-time NCAA champion is the fifth man in history to repeat as the 60 hurdles national champion. And he is third man in history to win consecutive SEC 60 hurdles titles.
Holloway's 19.5 individual points led the Gators to their eighth NCAA team title since 2010—a total that leads the nation by three.
