Gators Beat Jacksonville 10-3

WHAT HAPPENED: Florida had a strong offensive night to beat Jacksonville 10-3 on Wednesday night at McKethan Stadium.

Seven different Gators picked up RBI on the night and Deacon Liput had a 4-for-4 night at the plate.

The scoring opened in the fourth inning on JJ Schwarz's solo home run. Nick Horvath followed with a RBI single to score Liput for a 2-0 lead.

Wil Dalton continued the barrage in the fifth with his ninth home run of the year over the trees in left field. Blake Reese joined his teammates with a two-run homer to make it 6-0 after five.

Jacksonville made it interesting in the seventh inning, notching three runs on four hits off reliever Tommy Mace. The Gators restored order in the bottom of the inning with three runs.

Freshman catcher Cal Greenfield picked up his first career RBI with a single in the bottom of the seventh that gave UF a 10-3 lead.

Freshman Hunter McMullen, making his first career start, scattered four hits over three scoreless innings. Andrew Baker pitched three scoreless innings to earn his second win of the season.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: McMullen Brothers – Freshman Hunter and sophomore Kirby combined for 5.0 shutout innings in Wednesday's win. Hunter made his first career start and Kirby pitched the final two innings.

FROM THE COACH: Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan on Deacon Liput's performance: "It's just about getting more at bats, I think he's had six RBI over the last six games. You can see how I feel about offensively, I put him right in the five hole because he was seeing the ball pretty good. He just had not had a lot to show for it. But watching the at bats he's had and the quality of the at bats he's had, I felt like it was time to move him right in the middle of the order."

On the power surge of the team: "You never know what to expect. Obviously we've got some guys with some strength and have put some good swings on some balls. Tonight we felt like it may be one of those nights with the way the wind was blowing out.

"I say the same thing over and over, but I think the consistency of guys being healthy certainly has something to do with it."

STANDOUT STAT: 1.6 – The Gators are averaging 1.6 home runs per game this season, totaling 36 home runs through the first 23 games. By comparison, last year the team hit 0.75 home runs per game – 53 homers in 71 games. Through 23 games in 2017 the team only had 17 home runs.

UP NEXT: Florida continues its homestand with a three-game series this weekend against No. 4 Arkansas. Friday's series opener is at 6:30 p.m. and will stream live on SEC Network+.

Saturday (ESPN2) and Sunday's (SEC Network) games will both start at noon.
