Second player in program history to be selected to both teams
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Chris Chiozza has been selected to the 2018 Coaches All-SEC First Team and All-Defensive Team, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
Chiozza, who is the only guard on the All-Defensive Team this year, joins Scottie Wilbekin as the only other player in program history to be named to both lists. This marks the fourth time since 2012-13 that a Florida point guard has been chosen to the All-Defensive Team.
"It's a great accomplishment — something I didn't think I would do," Chiozza said. "My last three years, my goal was to be on the defensive team. I told coach that at the beginning of the year. That's a great feeling to have to know that I set that goal and got it. I'm just going to try and come out there and play defense like that every night."
The Gator senior currently leads the conference in assists per game (6.1), total assists (188) and assist to turnover ratio (+3.30) while also ranking second in total steals (58) and steals per game (1.87).
Nationally, he ranks eighth in assist to turnover ratio, 19th in total assists and 21st in assists per game.
Chiozza was also voted to the AP All-SEC Second Team.
This is the first time that Chiozza has been named to either list in his collegiate career.
