Holloway Hurdles to No. 2 in Collegiate History; Gators Rack up NCAA Top 10s
Friday, April 13, 2018 | Track and Field
Holloway's time of 13.16 seconds tied Maryland's Renaldo Nehemiah (1979)—who also holds the collegiate record of 13.00—and Oregon's Devon Allen (2014) for the second-fastest time on the collegiate all-time top 10. It also dethroned Josh Walker's school record of 13.32 seconds from the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Entering the day, Holloway's personal record was 13.39 seconds, tied with Eddie Lovett (2013) for No. 2 on the program's All-Time Top 10.

For a second consecutive meet, the men's hammer throw school record fell, with Anders Eriksson topping his own record and improving his standing as the No. 3-ranked thrower in the nation by 27 centimeters (73.58 meters / 241 feet, 5 inches). Also in the hammer throw, redshirt junior AJ McFarland's personal record of 67.99 meters (223 feet, 1 inch) improved his standing as the No. 5-ranked hammer thrower on the school's All-Time Top 10, in addition to moving him to No. 14 on the national descending order list.

Also in the field, sophomore Clayton Brown cleared 2.24 meters (7 feet, 4.25 inches) to tie the No. 4 high jump mark in the nation and on the school's All-Time Top 10 list. While Brown took the win, teammate Jhonny Victor finished third and tied the No. 12 mark in the country, topping out at 2.18 meters (7 feet, 1.75 inches). That mark broke a five-way tie for 10th on the school's All-Time Top 10 as well.
On the women's side of the field events, Lloydricia Cameron (shot put) and Yanis David (long jump) both logged the No. 3 marks in the nation in their respective competitions. Cameron's top throw of 17.66 meters (57 feet, 11.25 inches) strengthened her grip on the No. 4 ranking on the school's All-Time Top 10, while David's top jump of 6.69 meters (21 feet, 11.5 inches) was slightly wind-aided and could not count as the No. 2 mark on the school's All-Time Top 10.
The Gators also posted three of the nation's top 16 times in the men's 100 meters, with junior Ryan Clark leading the way at a barely-wind-aided 10.16 seconds, good enough for ninth in the country. Freshman Hakim Sani Brown (10.19) and junior Michael Timpson Jr. (10.25) both ran collegiate personal bests, checking in at 11th and 16th on the collegiate rankings.

The Gators return to action in two weeks at the National Relay Championships, held in Fayetteville, Ark.
HEARING OUT (COACH) HOLLOWAY
Head coach Mike Holloway on where both teams are at as they approach the postseason meets…
"The big thing for me is understanding this is Tom Jones (Memorial) … we need to be a little bit more ready in two weeks when we go to Arkansas, then a little bit more ready at conference, a little more, and a little more. We have to keep training, but we also have to keep working on the technical aspects to get better in those as well."
Coach Holloway on Grant Holloway's 13.16 in the 110 hurdles…
"We've seen that in practice and knew it was coming. I didn't know it was coming today. But I knew it was coming. Grant has the ability to rise up to the occasion. He knew there were some good hurdlers here, and I warned him and said, 'Look, this is your home turf. You need to defend it.' He defended it well."
Coach Holloway on some of the day's other notable performances…
"I was really proud of Ryan Clark. Michael Timpson (Jr.) had a monstrous day. It was good to see Hakim (Sani Brown) start to look like Hakim. Chantz Sawyers in the 400. It just goes on and on and on. Yanis David jumping 21-11(.5), wow. Anders Eriksson with 241 feet in the hammer."
ADDITIONAL QUOTES (GRANT HOLLOWAY)
Sophomore Grant Holloway on tying the second-fastest time in collegiate history…
"I never really go out here and chase a time. Coach Holloway's been ramping on me (about) being the best executor we can be. Today, we just came out and executed on all cylinders. It was a great day. I was glad I did it, because I knew I had the capability. I just didn't know when it was going to happen, and I didn't want to wait until towards the end of the season. I'm glad it came now so we've got more building blocks going toward SECs, nationals, USAs."
Holloway on if he felt more polished than two weeks ago and whether or not it was a perfect race…
"Nothing's ever perfect. I would say that was one of my best races. I let the time speak for itself. In that race I executed all 10 hurdles. At USAs (last year), I only executed seven, and that caused me not to make the team. Today, I executed all 10, good finish. I knew it when I crossed the line."
Holloway on joining the likes of Devon Allen and Renaldo Nehamiah on the all-time collegiate list…
"Devon Allen is definitely one of my role models. Renaldo Nehamiah is the last one we've got to capture. I don't know what it's going to take. I don't know when it's going to happen. I'm going to keep working my butt off here at practice and make sure I execute."
