CHARTING THE GATORS: Double Decade Coaches Club
Becky Burleigh (left) and Mary Wise (right)
They've been playing sports at the University of Florida for more than a century, but along the way only nine coaches have ever led their Gators teams for at least 20 seasons. One of those nine, swimming icon Gregg Troy, retired Wednesday and thus brought an end to a UF career that began in 1998 with the women's team, then expanded to overseeing the men a year later. Two of the others (see below) are still around and still collecting hardware. Volleyball coach Mary Wise next fall will join David Fuller as the longest tenured coach (any sport) in Gators history, while soccer coach Becky Burleigh will work her way up the chart, as well. Here's a look at the UF "Double Decade Coaches Club."
