Holloway Appears on Seventh The Bowerman Men’s Watch List
Thursday, May 17, 2018 | Track and Field
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore hurdler, jumper and sprinter Grant Holloway made his seventh The Bowerman Men's Watch List appearance in as many releases this season, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association revealed Thursday afternoon.
Holloway—who garnered USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors Tuesday—once again turned in a history weekend, this time helping the Gators sweep the SEC Outdoor Championships.
Individually, Holloway scored 23 points, tied with Georgia's Denzel Comenentia for the highest total at this year's meet.
Most notably, Holloway became the first man in outdoor track and field history to break 13.20 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and long jump at least 8.10 meters (both wind-legally), according to athlete bios maintained by the IAAF. And he did it in a 28-hour span. The Chesapeake, Va., native opened Saturday's long jump competition (more on the result momentarily) with a wind-legal 8.17-meter jump, then followed it up Sunday with the second-fastest 110 hurdles time in collegiate history (13.15 seconds).
Holloway won both the 110 hurdles and long jump titles, joining Alabama's Keith Talley (1986-87) as the only other man in history to win both those titles at any point in time. Like Holloway, Talley captured the two titles in a single SEC Outdoors, though he did it in 1986 and 1987.
Although Holloway's long jump mark of 8.17 meters (26 feet, 9.25 inches) moved him to No. 5 on Florida's All-Time Outdoor Top 10 list, his winning mark was a wind-aided 8.32 meters (27 feet, 3.75 inches). That mark ranks No. 2 in this year's national rankings.
Holloway also earned a pair of bronze medals running for Florida's 4x100 (third leg) and 4x400 (anchor) relays.
Here is a look at some other feats Holloway's achieved this year:
Holloway and the Gators continue their outdoor season next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the NCAA East Preliminary in Tampa, Fla. Qualifiers for the meet were announced by the NCAA earlier this afternoon.
