Brasfield & Gorrie Selected to Manage Construction of New Baseball Ballpark

GAINESVILLE, Fla.—The University Athletic Association has selected Brasfield & Gorrie as the construction manager for the University of Florida baseball ballpark project, scheduled to begin construction in the fall of 2018.
"We look forward to partnering with Brasfield & Gorrie, joining our architect team of Walker & Populous, to deliver a new home for Gator Baseball that matches the quality and expectation of the incredible program established by Coach O'Sullivan and supported by the Gator Nation," said Laird Veatch, Executive Associate Athletics Director for Internal Affairs.
Brasfield & Gorrie, one of the nation's largest privately held construction firms, has a large portfolio of projects, including several on or near the UF campus. The firm completed the renovation of Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center, the addition and renovation of the UF gymnastics facility, the Football Indoor Practice Facility and Infinity Hall at Innovation Square.
In addition, the firm has extensive experience with baseball projects, including work on the Atlanta Braves SunTrust Park in Atlanta, Georgia; Regions Field in Birmingham, Alabama; North Augusta Ballpark in North Augusta, South Carolina; and Phase 2 of the Hoover Metropolitan Complex in Hoover, Alabama, home of the annual Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament.
Construction of the estimated $50 million ballpark, with an overall capacity of approximately 10,000, is expected to be completed in time for the 2020 season. Home plate will face northeast with the sun behind the stadium for a cooler atmosphere for the student-athletes and fans. A 360-degree open concourse will give fans constant field views, and multiple seating options will be under shade.
Permanent chairback seats will increase from 2,408 to approximately 5,000, while fans will also be able to choose from premium seating and non-traditional seating options to bring overall capacity to approximately 10,000. Enhanced concession space with new food options will also be available for fans, while student-athletes and staff will enjoy modern amenities and larger spaces.
