Florida jumps up 12 spots on with 2-under second round score
STILLWATER, Okla. -- The Gators were one of the big movers in the second round of the NCAA Championships.
After a 286 (-2), they jumped up 12 spots on the leaderboard and are now just one stroke off of the cut line entering Sunday. Florida is in 17th just behind Arizona State, Arkansas, BYU and North Carolina who are all tied at 9-over in 13th. After three rounds of stroke play, the field is cut down to 15 teams with a fourth round determining who advances to the 8-team match play.
UF was one of just six teams in the 30 team field to card an under-par round. Freshman John Axelsen carded a team-low 68 (-4) which included seven birdies. Axelsen has made the most of his opportunities on the par-5 holes as he leads the field with a combined 7-under score thru the first 36 holes.
In round two, Axelsen birdied all four par-5 holes and nearly holed out the final one for an eagle. His round helped him leap 82 spots on the leaderboard as he is tied for 37th at 1-over for the tournament.
