Barnhill was named the 2018 Academic All-American® of the Year for Division I softball.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment for Kelly." Stated head coach Tim Walton. "She dedicates so much of herself to being an elite level athlete on the field, but she also goes above and beyond to being an even better student. I'm proud of Kelly's determination to be as successful in the classroom as she is on the field and that she is being recognized for it."
Barnhill's dedication to her studies has led her to a 3.92 GPA in Public Relations and recently was accepted into the UF College of Journalism and Communications combined degree program, which allows her to start her master's in Global Strategic Communications in the fall.
"I'm so honored to be receiving this award." Barnhill said. "Academics have been important to me my whole life and I came to UF to get the best education, while playing softball at the highest level."
The talented right-handed pitcher received numerous accolades for her efforts in the circle during her 2018 campaign. Highlighting Barnhill's achievements were being named a 2018 NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) First-Team All-American and a Top 4 finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.
