The Southeastern Conference announced the First-Year Academic Honor Roll this morning.
Gainesville, Fla. – The Florida softball team placed 13 student-athletes on both the 2018 SEC Spring and SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll. Nine members qualified for the Spring Honor Roll, while four freshmen achieved First-Year Academic Honor Roll status.
A total of 315 Florida student-athletes were named to a 2017-18 SEC Academic Honor Roll. The Gators placed 247 on SEC Academic Honor Rolls (85 on fall list; 63 winter, 99 on spring) and 68 on the First-Year Honor Roll.
Academics has played an integral role within the softball program, especially under head coach Tim Walton. Since Walton's arrival in 2006, 61 student-athletes have received 177 SEC Academic Honor Roll accolades along with 49 student-athletes being named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
"Congratulations to all of our players who have worked so hard in the classroom." Walton continued. "It's not an easy task to achieve a high-level of success both on the field and in the classroom, so I am proud of the dedication and attention to detail they have shown in pursuing academic success."
To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
