Pair of Gators Receive ITA Honors

2018 ITA All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Florida men's tennis team pursued excellence on the court and in the classroom and two student-athletes, were recognized for those efforts as senior Chase Perez-Blanco and freshman Duarte Vale were named Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athletes on Tuesday.
Perez-Blanco, a Miami native, put together an impressive career at UF finishing with a 96-53 overall singles record and a 78-36 doubles record. During his senior season, he led the team with 31 doubles wins and earned bids into both the ITA National Fall Championships and the ITA All-American Championships. Throughout his four years in a Gators uniform, Perez-Blanco earned the 2018 Coaches Award (team award), 2018 SEC Academic Honor Roll and was named to the 2015 SEC All-Freshman Team.
Perez-Blanco graduated from UF in May with a degree in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology.
During his freshman campaign, Vale (Cascais, Portugal) played in 41 doubles matches and earned a 25-16 record. He and junior McClain Kessler earned an at-large bid to the ITA National Fall Championships and advanced to the quarterfinals. The duo also advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Individual Championships, garnering the All-American honor. In singles play, Vale posted an 18-14 record and ended the season ranked No. 98.
Vale was recently named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, while still exploring social and behavioral sciences as his major.
The ITA All-Academic Awards featured 735 teams and 4,328 athletes from across all five divisions of college tennis. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
