Brings total to 22 lacrosse players earning academic honors during the 2017-18 academic year
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Five Gators were named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, as the Southeastern Conference announced Wednesday. Those five bring Florida lacrosse's total to 22 student-athletes with academic honors in 2017-18, tying the mark from the 2016-17 academic year.
Kaitlyn Dabkowski, Shannon Kavanagh Makenzie Mason, Emily Petillo and Eddy Shoop were the first-year Gators honored by the league.
Back in June, 17 Gators earned a spot on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll, the most in history of the Florida lacrosse program.
Wednesday's announcement brings Florida's total of student-athletes named to a 2017-18 SEC Academic Honor Roll to 315. Florida placed 247 on the SEC Academic Honor Rolls (85 on fall list; 63 winter, 99 on spring) and 68 on the First-Year Honor Roll.
On the field, Florida swept both the BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles to win the program's eighth-straight conference championship. The Gators finished the season with a 17-4 record, collected four IWLCA All-America honors, seven All-BIG EAST honorees, and four of the six major BIG EAST postseason awards.
To be recognized to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
