Summer is a Wrap

Ten returning players wrapped up summer ball this week with several making big impacts for their clubs. Brady Smith had perhaps the best summer at the plate of any player, hitting .333 (25-for-75) with five doubles, a homer and 10 RBI for the Cotuit Kettleers.
Austin Langworthy found his power stroke, hitting seven home runs with 16 RBI for the Falmouth Commodores. He went 6-for-14 (.429) in four playoff games before the Commodores were eliminated.
Joining Langworthy in Falmouth, Tyler Dyson performed well on the mound with 2.70 ERA in 23.1 innings and 26 strikeouts.
Right-hander Tommy Mace went 2-1 with nine strikeouts in 15.1 innings in the Cape Cod League, helping lead the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox to a first place finish in the East Division.
The McMullen brothers helped lead the Charlottesville TomSox to the Valley League South Division title. Hunter posted a 3.00 ERA in 21.0 innings with 28 strikeouts. Meanwhile, Kirby went 2-1 with a 3.05 ERA in 20.2 innings and did not allow a walk. Kirby also went 17-for-66 (.258) at the plate with two doubles and seven RBI.
All returning student-athletes will return to campus next week as classes for the fall semester begin Wednesday, August 22. The Gators will begin fall practice in October.
